Seriously?

Is sentence diagramming really a necessary life skill...or do English teachers want kids to learn it so they could torture parents? I mean seriously, when was the last time you were going about your day and thought to yourself, "gee, if only I had diagrammed the sentences in last week's People magazine, I would have understood it better"...hmmmmm.

I expect answers from the many educators in my life.
